ALL YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SURE TELECOM

Ok we have all used or at least heard of this new telecom services. Doesn’t really matter if you have or have not heard or used it, today am here to tell you all you should know about sure telecom.

First things first, let’s briefly analyze the telecom industry in Uganda. Being an already overcrowded though still profitable market with an approximate population of 30 million people and a combined subscriber base of just about 12 million users, Sure telecom is yet to compete with: MTN, Airetel, UTL, Orange,K2,  and Smile Telecom. All these companies are looking up to a population of 30 million people, with a combined subscriber base of just about 12 million users in Uganda.

Sure Telecom is a Singapore based mobile phone company, Invested $400 million in an operator's license, according to information from the (UIA) Uganda Investment Authority in Ugandan as well as (UCC) Uganda Communications Commission, Sure telecom has already launched here in Uganda though I have to say “Not officially” A call I made to customer care operator, Robert assures me an official launch will be early 2014. Infrastructure like a base stations in Nakawa  and a Switch House have already been installed to begin testing its signal since August 2013, sure telecom has already established a strong signal especially in central Kampala however week in some parts especially on the outskirts of Kampala. According to information from sure telecom website [Singapore], they offer Internet-based phone center solutions, international phone numbers and low-cost worldwide calls among other services, Personally I haven’t seen much of what they say as per now, however I do like there idea of giving out free voice calls and  free internet to people as they test there signal. Voice calls are ok, at least to me but very annoying internet speeds especially during day time as many have complained. Regular/Voice cards running at 40 KBs Per second Price: 2,000 UGX. However pretty good speeds on data cards running at 2 MBs Per second, Price: 20,000 UGX. Most times speed is according to your signal strength regardless whether you have a data card or voice card. A call to customer care Robert said they are in the process of stream lining both Voice and data cards to both run at “2MBs per second”

As it’s marketing strategy, sure telecom  may survive  competition in the telecom sector if more is put into the landline services offering data and voice services while competing with Libyan Telecom giant : Uganda Telecom, the only fixed line operator here in Uganda.

In conclusion: Sure telecom is up for a stiff competition in Uganda. Hoping I am not discouraging any one, but The Africa giants MTN and Zain/Airtel are not relaxing.  With this I hop more will be done for the betterment of Uganda to deliver quality and affordable calls and especially Internet.
